’Twas the Post Before Christmas

by Sy Gallimore

’Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the school,

Not a sound was made—not even by a tool.

The classrooms were full of empty seats:

No students, no teacher, no, not even Bietz [Southern University president].

But no catastrophe caused it, and there was no harm,

Everyone simply was home staying warm.

Hot chocolate, tinsel, and maybe a cookie or two,

And a long, long list of things to buy and do!

Sure, there’s the 12 days of Christmas,

But of break there’s 27!

That is a difference of four more than 11!

Campus may be barren, activity may be less,

And thank goodness for that! No more stress!

So, for all spending time decorating your tree,

I hope your Christmas is full of glee.

For all listening to that “Little Drummer Boy”

And buying that one last Christmas toy,

I hope your Christmas is better than most,

And that, at dinner, you raise a toast:

To my family and friends and those I hold dear,

Thank you for bringing me some Christmas cheer!

And with that I will end, for Christmas is in sight!

So, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
