Youíre Important to God!

by Eric Hickman

Almost everything in life has to do with age. You have to be a certain age to start school or get a driverís license. You most likely wonít see a 12-year-old wielding their very own credit card in Walmart, let alone buying something by themselves. (Although Iím sure it has happened before.)

Point is, most things in life require different levels of responsibility. Walking to school by yourself and providing for a whole family are two things that have totally different levels of required responsibility and, therefore, different ages. You see, our lives are structured (rightly so) in such a way as to develop responsibility in kids as they mature into adulthood.

This becomes interesting when we look at ministry. At the time Jesus called His disciples into ministry over 2,000 years ago, they were barely out of their teens. Christ literally called a bunch of college students to lead the most important movement known to man: the building of the Christian church. Iíll be honest, I canít think of any other movement that impacted the world as much as the Christian church did, lead by a bunch of twenty-somethings. We just havenít seen it.

This is where I really find hope in Christ. He chose young people who had limited experience, limited skills, and limited knowledge, and He turned them into the most powerful force on earth, one that changed the face of history as we know it. With everything that the founders of Christianity did at their young age, what do you think you could do for God?

Did you know God calls young people to be like Him, even though we might still be young? In 1 Timothy 4:12, God says, ďDonít let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purityĒ (NIV). *

Did you catch that? God wants us to set an example for the other believers in Christ. That means God wants you to be the representation of Christ to your fellow peers and adults. God has set you, as a young person, as a source of energy and an example, before the world for the cause of Christ . . . a very noble duty.

So, what will you do for Christ to stand for Him in your life? Are you ready to fly the banner of Christ as you live to share His hope? I know I am, and I hope you are, too!
