By Beholding We Become Changed

by Kevin Watson

I think we underestimate the power of influence on our minds and behaviors. Many consume TV shows and movies that are “entertainment,” but are actually detrimental to our stance on morality. Little by little we consume media that is actually funny and interesting, but unbeknown to us . . . we are being taught that it is OK to be a certain way and to act a certain way. Slowly our mindset is changed by what we are surrounding ourselves with. This influence is also obtained by consuming news programs and biased media (is there really a difference?).

I know many people who just laugh this thought off. I know many Christians who know more about actors and actresses and movie lines than they know about God and what He would like us to do. This really isn’t about entertainment. It’s about eternal life!

But when we remove these things from our minds and our thoughts, and we behold the glory of God through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we become changed.

When Moses came down from the mountain after God gave him the Ten Commandments to help His people turn from their ways, he had a glow on his face. He had been with God. They could tell . . . and they didn’t like it. That is why Moses had to put a veil on his face. They could not look at him anymore because the glory of God surrounded him.

Today, we are acting the same way as the Israelites. We don’t want to see God in all His glory, so we put a veil over Him and look at other things that make us “happy.”

Today, God asks us to not harden our hearts to His love and to His ways. He asks us to look upon Him and His beauty. We need to remove the things that cloud our minds and look at Him who can provide us instruction and guidance in what is right and what He wants us to do. You will be changed for sure. Try it.

“But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:15-18, NKJV).*
