Stop and think . . .

Kylee Thomas

First Corinthians 6:19, 20 says: “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body,” (NLT).* So should suicide ever be an option that you consider?

The Wake-up Call

by Kylee Thomas

If a voice woke you up in the middle of the night and told you to call your friend, would you do it? Iím glad I did!

I tossed and turned in my bed.

“Get up now!” a voice called out to me.
I jumped up immediately.
“Call Kendra* and pray for her!” the voice instructed.
It was three o’clock in the morning. Confused and only half awake, I began dialing my friend’s phone number.
Kendra’s terrified tone surprised me. “Kendra, are you all right?” I asked.
“No!” she managed to tell me.
“A voice woke me up and told me to call you and pray for you. Do you mind if I pray?”
By this time Kendra was crying uncontrollably.
I prayed, “Father, we come before You now, and we are so glad that it doesn’t matter what time it is. You are always listening to and answering our prayers. I don’t even know what the problem is, but heavenly Father, I bring Kendra before You! Lord, God, I ask that You  intervene in her life right now. Whatever her situation may be, I just ask that You set her free, Father! Bless her and cover her under Your blood, amen.”
“Kylee,” Kendra finally managed to speak while still trying to hold back her tears, “do you know that I’ve been contemplating killing myself? Yesterday I was so unhappy and depressed that I overdosed because I was tired of life, and I just wanted to let go! I bargained with God. I said, ‘Lord, if You are who You claim to be, and if You are really with me every step of the way, then help me! Please send me a sign that I’m supposed to be here, and that You created me for a purpose. If You don’t, then tomorrow for sure I will end my life.’
“Kylee, I’ve been sitting in front of this 10-inch knife, rocking back and forth. When my alarm clock read 2:59 a.m., I picked up the knife, raised it in the air, and then you called. It just had to be God who spoke to you and told you to call me!”
By this time I was crying uncontrollably. Kendra’s confession left me speechless! God had woken me up to pray for my friend who was on the verge of killing herself! I started praising God on the phone with Kendra.
After Kendra and I hung up, I thought about the fact that if I hadn’t had a personal relationship with God, there was no way He would have woken me up that morning to witness to Kendra and to pray for her. Then Kendra probably would have gone through with her plan. I felt thankful that God came through for Kendra right on time. He truly does work in mysterious ways.
