Surprise Answer!

by Wahida Marie

God got a message to me through His Word. What’s He trying to say to you?

One day at the beginning of the year I sat by myself at school, thinking about all that had happened in my life. My grandfather had just passed away, and my family and I were going through a lot of hardship. I even wondered, If I were to die, would I go to heaven when Jesus comes?

As I thought about the answer to that big question, I started crying. Then everyone asked me, “Why are you crying?”
“If you only knew what I’m going through . . .” I replied.
I decided to ask God for forgiveness, for doubting I would go to heaven. But I didn’t feel as though He’d forgiven me. So I asked Him to show me that He really had forgiven me.
A week after my birthday, my school had a Week of Prayer. The title of it was “It’s a New Season.” Since I was a member of the praise team, I had to sing the theme song. As I sang it, I literally cried on stage. I really wanted a change in my life.
When we finished singing the theme song, it was time for prayer. Everyone got in groups of two or three people. The guest speaker, an alumnus of the school, and I were the only people without partners, so I prayed with him.
After we prayed, he asked me, “What’s your name?
    “Wahida,” I told him.
He responded, “Thanks for praying with me, Wahida.”
While he gave his sermon, he said  something that touched me. After his sermon,  he made an appeal to people who wanted a deeper relationship with God. I was crying, and I didn’t want to go forward and respond.
The week progressed, then Thursday came.  That day we had an activity going on in which all the high school girls participated: the girls couldn’t talk to guys, unless they were working on a group project. One of my classmates was trying to get me to talk, but I didn’t.
Then the Week of Prayer speaker came over and told me, “God has a message for you.”
Surprised, I looked up at him and asked, “Are you sure the message is for me?
“Yes,” he assured me. Then he showed it to me in his Bible. It was in Philippians 3:13, 14: “One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
I got the message: God wanted me to stop contemplating the past and start contemplating the future! And I know why God gave me that message—He was trying to tell me to let go and let Him handle my future.
After the Week of Prayer speaker gave me the message, we prayed together. As we prayed, it amazed me that God used a stranger to answer my prayer!
