The Festivals
Posted by Asladon 101 on Feb 26 2010 2:40PM
Why do Seventh-Day Adventists object to keeping the feasts of Leviticus? God has set these "Holidays" up for us to keep! Why don't we celebrate them?

To Asladon101: Christmas is a pagan holiday masked for a Christian holiday. It is called Saturnalia, after the pagan god Saturn.

To all those who disagree with my post, you really have to study the feasts to understand them. If you study them, you will find that Jesus only fulfilled the spring feasts. However, this does not mean we stop celebrating them. "Do you celebrate Christmas? I thought Jesus was already born! To celebrate Christmas is like saying he isn't born yet!" Do you see my logic here? What has not yet happened (the fall feasts), we look forward to. What has happened, we remember.

(cont.) Now, we have a new service: Communion. That was the only thing that Jesus asked His followers to do, the Lord's Supper was the example for us to follow what we do now: we wash each other's feet like what Jesus did to represent that no one is above another, we eat the unleavened bread and drink the grape juice that signify His body and blood, which represents His sacrifice, which cleanses us from sin. That is the reason why we do not celebrate the OT Festivals, for Jesus and His sacrifice has fulfilled their use. Let me know what you think. God bless and happy Sabbath!

(cont.)Those festivals that are outlined in the Book of the Law were part of the law of ordinances. Those festivals were a foreshadowing of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for our sins. Instead of us paying the price, He came to pay the price for us. Now, since He already came, lived, died, and rose again, those festivals are no longer celebrated, for what they were foreshadowing already came. They were pointing to Jesus. Celebrating them now can be equated to saying that Jesus still didn't come yet. He did come and died for us.

in regards to the leviticus festivals read Colossians 2:14 and 15, then read the passage in leviticus again. i'm sure u'll realize that colossians is saying that these festivals are 'nailed to the cross' they are called ordinances in verse 14. and u'll also notice that the order in which they are mentioned in both passages are the same. there is no need to continue these festivals cause Jesus came and died for us, so we dont have to worry, we can just talk to him directly. ISNT THAT WONDERFUL!!

All these festivals pointed to Christ's coming. It was just like the sacrifices. I believe that once Christ came, the festivals were done away with because after that, we were able to have direct communication with heaven and we dont need to have festivals. God tore the curtain in the temple at Jesus death to show that sacrifices were done away with. Why would they need to keep the festivals if sacrifices were done away with?

Jesus never commanded his disciples to keep the Jewish festivals. He instructed us to observe Communion in remembrance of him. Communion is the modern-day Passover.

These feasts and holidays pointed to a future person or thing(event), therefore keeping these feast and holidays would disregard the fulfilment of the type. this is where colossions 2:14 is relevant"blotting out the ordinances which was against us..."
