I have a really close friend that I like a lot and she likes me a lot too. We have discussed it already, and have decided we want to date, but aren't going to until we are both in college. Is it okay to continually just like each other and not step it up into a dating relationship? Should we just not even like each other while we wait or what? Is it okay to wait like this? What do you guys think? Thanks!

The Law Done Away With
Posted by Risharda on Jan 19 2010 3:14PM
Hi, I have a friend who asked me why Seventh-day Adventists keep the Sabbath when the Bible states that the law is done away with. He didn't give me any verses to help me answer his question so I looked it up myself. I understand that the laws dealing with sacrifices were done away with because the promise that they represented was fulfilled by Christ's dying on the cross. But what about The Commandments? How can I explain that those are still in effect? Thanks for your answers!

the bible text used to support this claim is colossians 2:14, but people fail to read the rest of the chapter or even the next two verses which explain the ordinances; especially verse 15 that mentions them as the festivals mentioned in leviticus 23. the laws that are done away with are the laws moses wrote not the laws God wrote on stone with His fingers

(cont.) When Jesus died, He rested on the Sabbath day. The women who were going to embalm His body rested from work on the Sabbath day. And there is no proclamation recorded from God that has Him changing His Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Sunday worship comes from the Roman empire times where Emperor Constantine changed the day of worship to create a compromise between the pagans and the Christians when it came to a day of worship. Man cannot change what God has instituted. The Seventh Day is the true Sabbath, not the first day, and it will always remain that way. I hope this helps you to gain a better understanding of the world around you. God bless you and have a happy Sabbath!

Well, I could try to explain why the Sabbath is still on Saturday. In Genesis 1, where the creation story is, God blessed and hallowed the seventh day. That means that the Sabbath was created before sin, which means that it was always important and significant to God in the first place. When sin came, the law was created to guide others to stay away from sin. The Sabbath was still expected to be observed.

Hello there, actually the ten commandments are not done away with. The 2 commandments Jesus said in the new testament are summaries of the 10 commandments. For example, when you love your neighbour, you won't covet his wife, his stuff and so forth, and neither will you harm him. Some of them are summarized in the second greatest commandment love your neighbour. The others are summarized in Love the Lord.By this i mean, if you love God, you won't break his sabbath and so forth.

Okay we went over this in my bible study class. You will run into lots of people who will say, "Oh, in the New Testement, Jesus said that the only two important laws were Love your Neighbor and Love God, so that means the ten commandments were done away with" you can say in response that Jesus also said in another sermon that the He didnt come to get rid of the law, but to lift it up. In fact, he even said that not one dot over an i or a cross in a t will be changed untill Heaven and Earth pass away. When Jesus gave the two most important commandments, he just summed up the 10 commandments. Like Cliff notes. love your God=1-4 (no other gods, no idols, no God's name in vain, sabbath. and love your neighbor=5-10 (no stealing, no murdering, no lying, no coveting, no adultery, honor your parents). So you can tell your friend Jesus didnt get rid of them, He simplified them.

Also there is the verse where Jesus says he has not come to destroy the law but fulfill it.

There are alot of verse but i'll give you 2. There is Revelation 14:12 refering to God's end time people"Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus" so here we see that keeping God's commandments are requirements of God's people. Another verse is John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments" therefore if your heart is keeping you away from keeping God's commandments then there can be love for God in your heart. One thing that might help is to show the difference between the Weekly Sabbath and ceremonial sabbaths, for example the Weekly sabbath was put in place before sin while the ceremonial sabbaths were in place as a result of sin

The best thing to do is actually prove to the person(s) from the Bible where it speaks about the sabbath, and let them prove that Sunday or whichever day they think is right to worship, is actually right and proven in the Bible

Because there was no point in the Bible that God stated that the ten commandments were done away with, even Jesus kept the Sabbath and Jesus is our example and he clearly states that all must keep the ten commandments in order to make it to His kingdom, and the part that says to love the lord our god and our neighbours as our selves is actually a summary of the ten commandments. And surprisingly many Sunday pastors will admit that Saturday is the right day and that man actually changed the day of worship to Sunday.
