Interracial Dating
Posted by Donny on Apr 22 2009 8:35AM
I have a question. I'd like to know the church's official stance on the matter of interracial dating. If it's so wrong can you back it up with a verse of scripture from the Bible? Plus if God wants us to love everyone and He specifically said we all are one what is so wrong with it?

In Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek. I think the issue is that persons make this seem as if it should not be done. I'm Black and I think if I like a guy who is Irish, so be it. To me. there's nothing wrong. Its just society that is still struggling with prejudicial issues.

all humans are FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE IN GOD'S IMAGE. it doesnt matter the colour of a person's skin cause that cannot determine their character/personality and that doesnt determine whether they go to heaven or not

There are instances of interracial marriages in the Bible. Probably one of the most well known is Moses and Zipporah. Any relationship needs to be founded on God and God alone and not factored necessarily on race. However you should be aware that usually it involves a lot more compromises, because different races usually have different cultural backgrounds. (One side question: what does the story of Zelophehad's daughter have to do with this question? God told them whom they could marry because of property rights, not because of race, since Isrealites were all one race - the property were not allowed to pass from one tribe to another and if they were to marry outside of the tribe then the property would be transfered out the family and into another tribe)

I don't believe there is anything wrong with it. You just have to keep in mind that cultures and peoples ways of thinking are different. They react differetly to situations. You just have to prepare yourself for that.

The opinions of a few people in the church does not define the stand of the church as a whole or what God says. God loves all people, so I do not think there is a problem with interracial dating. Like all other relationships it just needs to be founded on God.

Agah, you're so right. I just don't understand why this business of people being judged is hurtful to the mixed child so on that basis interracial dating should be discouraged. Isn't there someone who holds a big position in the church that can come forward and give an official position on this matter?

Much opinion, little scripture. Check out Zelophehad's story. Numbers 26, 27, & 36. God told his daughters who they could and couldn't marry. Draw your own conclusions - but I think this is fascinating stuff. It may reflect on the interracial thing, but I think it is MUCH MORE striking to those searching for their "soul mate". Didn't God care if these girls' "soul mate" wasn't in the little group he "suggested" they marry? Can God bring a blessing out of ANY marriage?? ;) I'm just sayin'. Think about it.

People are going to judge you no matter what. That doesn't mean you let what people think affect the way you live. People are going to judge you harshly for preaching Christ. Does that mean we should not be Christians? No. It just means you have to stand up for your beliefs in spite of the opposition.

So what do you say to those who think it's not a wise idea based on what you said about people judging them harshly for it?

I am black and I see nothing worng with it. Actually the Lord brought me to one and she is really spiritually grounded loving remarkable and i can continue forever. As for the Bible it says that there is no more Jew nor Gentile, circumcision or not, Christ has made us one. However the Bible warns of dating worldy women as in those you share different beliefs
