Thanks for Nothing

 Thanks for nothing, Lord.

Oh, I haven’t forgotten about the things
You’ve done or the things
You’ve promised to do,
but thanks for nothing too.

Remember when I asked for that
date with Carmen?
She said no, and I couldn’t understand.
I blamed You for not helping me.
You gave me nothing.
But now I see we wouldn’t have hit it off.

Remember when I wanted a B in geometry?
I even prayed before the final test.
I didn’t get a B, Lord. I got a C.
I wondered why You didn’t help me.
But because You gave me nothing, I’m studying harder.
I got a B+ on my Geometry II test.

Now I want a car.
Last month I asked You to find me
what I want at a good price.
You haven’t yet. I’m learning to be grateful
even when You give me nothing.
I’m learning to trust You no matter what.

For I know now when I’m with You,
nothing is something too.
And sometimes it’s everything.
