Can You Hear Me Now?

October 13, 2005

"Can you hear me now?" It seems like I've been saying that a lot lately when I'm talking on my cell phone. And I don't always have the positive answer as the guy on the commercials. In fact, I can't wait until my cell phone contract expires this winter. As soon as it's up, I'm switching to a new company. My current "coverage" sometimes drops me in the middle of a call because I've "left the coverage area", even when I haven't moved. The coverage at our home is best from the top of the driveway and nearly non-existent in most of the house. The battery has the lifespan of a gnat. I'm really thankful for it when it does work, but it's a real hassle to be paying for a service that, much of the time, I have very limited access to.

Thankfully, God's not like that. His "coverage area" is pretty extensive. He'll never "drop" your calls, no matter how far away from Him you've moved.

In fact, in Psalm 139:7-10, David says of God, "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."

No matter where we are or what we're going through, God's got us covered. He'll never "drop" us from His coverage. But we can choose to hang up on Him. He's calling you. Can you hear Him now?
