A Special Interview With Christian Music Artist Lanae Hale

Lanae’ Hale is a talented Nashville songwriter that we featured earlier this year. Lanae’ has an incredible testimony, and she took time to answer five questions for us for the Insight Web site.  To read my review of her latest album, click on this link: http://www.insightmagazine.org/audio/add_review

Insight: Hi, Lanae’. Thank you for taking the time to answer five questions for our Insight Web site. I loved your new album. What a fresh sound in the Christian music industry!
Lanae’: Oh, thank you SO much!!! :)
Insight: Here’s question one: I like how your music is described as “deep pop.” Have you always written with such an urgent, autobiographical purpose? Or do the songs on Back & Forth result from a desire to share your testimony?
Lanae’: I have always written from the deepest parts of my soul. I grew a passion for writing when I was 15, and I was, even then, drawn to writing about the issues of the heart in regard to life and its many challenges. Oftentimes in my writings I do have pieces of me in the lyrics. But there are also a lot of emotions I have gathered from observing people and their personal tragedies and joys.
Insight: Here’s question two: Centricity is a great label, and I was wondering if you are a fan of label mate Andrew Peterson? If you are, would you consider collaborating/touring with him in the future? Andrew’s music is also very honest and powerful, albeit in a slightly different genre.
Lanae’: Andrew Peterson is honestly one of the most talented songwriters in Nashville! He has a way of poetically melting words into a story that grips the heart and moves the soul. I have a huge respect for his art! Of course, if the opportunity ever arose, I would be honored to tour with him.
Insight: Now for question three: Insight, the magazine this Web site belongs to, is a publication exclusively for teens. You are someone who’s dealt firsthand with having lost direction in your life—even your will to live. As a result you relied on “cutting,” because in your own words: “ I didn’t like who I was, and I was tired of living.” What advice can you give our readers who might be in the same place you were?
Lanae’: Well, I strongly recommend seeking out Christian counseling. Oftentimes with addictions, such as self-harm, the real issues lie much deeper than the cuts themselves.  I think speaking to a professional in a very safe environment will help to uncover buried pain and will invoke inner healing.  It also goes without saying that I could not have been carried out of those dark days were it not for my Savior, Jesus Christ. I have learned that the only way to fight off the lies of the enemy is by knowing truth. Reading God’s Word and experiencing its deep power has been such a life saving experience.
Insight: OK, here’s question four: what’s a Bible verse that you live by daily?
Lanae’: Well, one of my life verses is Psalm 147:3: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (NIV).*
Insight: Final question: how does your church family play into your relationship with God?
Lanae’: My husband and I love our church!  We are able to work with our youth group, and we also host a community group at our apartment. I love being a part of our church community and the built-in accountability that it provides.
Insight: Thank you, Lanae’! I appreciate your time, and I wish you the best in support of this record.
Lanae’: Thanks so much! J
