Lanae Hales Back and Forth

Lanae’ Hale’s first full-length project is a real gem, offering track after track of singable, folksy melodies and testimonial confessions. Lanae’s music is accessible yet still heavily influenced with an off-the-beaten-path indie vibe.  Having once fallen victim to one of the most dangerous forms of self-injury, Lanae’s testimony is incredibly potent. Now, through her music, you can tell that her relationship with Jesus is rooted in contentment.

In the acoustically-driven “Here’s My Heart,” Lanae’ sings about her yearning for redemption and the truth of God’s love covering her life: “Sweet redemption find me / Hold me, keep me, blind me / With the truth of Your love.” Then, there’s the lighter material, like “Let’s Grow Old Together.” On the first listen the song might strike you as a bit odd, since a high-school-band-style intro is fused with an inspirational chorus heavily influenced by beach bums like Colbie Caillat. There’s everything in between on this record as well. While some of the songs suffer from sounding a little too much like their sister tracks, Back and Forth is still a very enjoyable summer listen. That’s because the subjects stay fresh, and they offer positive messages through and through.

Lanae Hale’s first full-length project, Back and Forth, hit stores May 19, 2009.
