BarlowGirl: Home For Christmas
For those who are unfamiliar with this group, BarlowGirl is this decade’s Point of Grace—a harmony-driven group with all female leads who bring to the scene edgier rhythms and guitars. While I was expecting this same kind of vibe on Home For Christmas, instead my ears were treated to a beautiful, fully-orchestrated collection of favorites which has a great shot at becoming a new perennial classic.
The Barlow sisters deliver all of the staples, including a feels-like-you-are-in-the-room rendition of “Panis Angelicus,” an incredibly moving “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” along with the fun holiday welcome mat, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” Most of the tracks don’t even hint at the “Barlow” sound. Instead, the sisters keep just their harmonies in play and otherwise decide to play it safe musically and not experiment too much with the classics. Home For Christmas is a beautiful collection of songs that will fill anyone with holiday cheer. If Christmas isn’t on your mind yet, buy this album, and it will be!
